Kappa Kappa Iota: Nu State (California)
A Professional Organization for Educators

Welcome to Nu State!

Kappa Kappa Iota has the distinction of being the oldest organization for educators in the United States and is now a 501c3 nonprofit organization. It began in Stillwater, Oklahoma in 1921 when a group of public school teachers gathered sto share teaching ideas, to socialize and to simply have fun.

Kappa Kappa Iota is now open to both men and women, and an association rather than a sorority.

The first chapter (conclave) formed in California was Alpha in Long Beach in 1955. California officially became Nu State on April 8, 1967. More on the history of Nu State

The purpose of the order is to promote good fellowship and cooperation among teachers, to strive for the elevation of the teaching profession, and to oppose all forces detrimental to the educational system of the United States of America.
